What is Safe Routes to School? Safe Routes to School is a national program funded by the Federal Government and administered by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). Working in conjunction with Otsego Local Schools, the Village of Haskins received a planning grant to evaluate safe methods to improve walking and bicycling to and from school for children attending Haskins Elementary School. Why Safe Routes?
Some of benefits of this program are: - Increase physical activity in children and develop a lifetime habit of fitness
- Decrease congestion around school
- Decrease fuel consumption
- Decrease air pollution
- Help promote the National/Schools Wellness Policy
What do you think? This website was created to obtain input from the residents of Haskins. Although we have previously distributed a Parent Survey to those parents picking up children at the school, we wanted to provide our residents with an additional opportunity to complete the survey. You can download the Survey (in .pdf format) and fax it to us at 419-823-1120, mail it to PO Box 182, Haskins, Ohio, 43525, or drop it off at Town Hall.
The Safe Routes to School Committee sincerely appreciates the time parents and/or caregivers take to respond to this issue. When compiled, the results will be incorporated into our school travel plan.
If you have had an experience related to safety issues with your children walking or biking to school we would like to hear about it. Feel free to use the below form to answer the question HOW CAN WE IMPROVE THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN WALKING OR BIKING TO SCHOOL.
