In 2008 the Village Council of the Village of Haskins passed ordinance O-2008-6 establishing a Tree Commission and ordinance O-2008-7 Amending the Village Tree Ordinance. Under ordinance O-2008-6 the Village Tree Commission is to be made up of (5) five volunteer members to serve for overlapping (3) three year terms. With this in mind the Village of Haskins is looking for community minded people who are interested in being on the tree commission.
Responsibilities of the Tree Commission are to disseminate approved news regarding the planting and maintenance of trees within the corporation limits of the Village of Haskins. Establish the recommended species and varieties of trees to be planted in the public right-of-way. To implement an annual Arbor Day observance for the Village of Haskins. To establish and maintain an annual inventory of all Village Street Trees as defined by ordinance. Qualifications desired but not mandatory for Tree Commission members include; a background as an arborist or background in arboriculture, a background in horticulture, and training or certification as a master gardener. Most importantly volunteer candidates should show a desire to have a positive impact on the appearance of the urban forest canopy in the Village of Haskins. If you posses any or some of these qualifications and have a desire to help your community as a Tree Commission volunteer please contact the Village of Haskins Clerk in writing expressing your desire to serve as a Tree Commission volunteer including any experience that you have in the areas listed above. All letters will be reviewed by the Mayor and recommendations will then be subject to approval by Village Council at a date to be announced. |
